Ocular rosacea is a common inflammatory condition of the eye that impacts 15-18 million people in the United States1-3

The National Rosacea Society estimates that ocular rosacea may exist in up to 60% of patients with rosacea.4

The disease itself is thought to be caused by vascular, immune and/or other microbial factors, including an overgrowth of Demodex mites, which can lead to inflammation.1,4,5

The presentation of ocular rosacea varies by individual, but the most common signs include1

  • The presence of small, visible blood vessels (telangiectasia) along the eyelid and eyelid margins
  • Inflammation and blockage of the meibomian glands (oil glands in the eyelids that contribute oil to human tears)
  • Redness of eyelid and periorbital region
  • Potential corneal involvement with inflammation (keratitis)
